SSC Stenographer Recruitment 2026 Notification, Exam Date, Online Form

SSC Stenographer Recruitment 2026 Notification, Exam Date, Online Form is organised every year by the Staff Selection Commission to select candidates for the posts of Stenographer Grades C and D. The SSC Stenographer Recruitment 2026 Notification will be released in April 2026. Candidates interested in the SSC Stenographer 2026 Exam first have to submit their applications online, which will start in May 2026 at www.ssc.gov.in. SSC Stenographer 2026 Eligibility Criteria

There are important criteria that a candidate must fulfil to be eligible for the SSC Stenographer 2026. The parameters are given below:

SSC Stenographer Educational Qualification

The minimum Educational Qualification required by a candidate is to be at least a 12th pass from a recognised Board or University. He/She must be able to produce the required documents when asked for verification after qualifying for the SSC Stenographer 2026 Exam.

SSC Stenographer Age Limit 

SSC Stenographer Grade C: A candidate must lie in the age domain of 18-30 years to be eligible for the SSC Stenographer 2026 Grade C Exam.

SSC Stenographer Grade D: A candidate must lie in the age domain of 18-27 years to be eligible for the SSC Stenographer 2026 Grade D Exam.

Nationality

A candidate must be either:
(a) a citizen of India, or
(b) a subject of Nepal, or
(c) a subject of Bhutan, or
(d) a person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania (Formerly Tanganyika and Zanzibar), Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia and Vietnam to permanently settle in India.
Provided that a candidate belonging to categories (b), (c), (d) and (e) above shall be a person in whose favour the Government of India has issued a certificate of eligibility.

A candidate in whose case a certificate of eligibility is necessary may be admitted to the examination, but the offer of appointment will be given only after the necessary eligibility certificate has been issued to him by the Government of India.

Staff Selection Commission will only accept the Online Applications for the SSC Stenographer 2026 exam from May 2026 onwards at their official website www.ssc.gov.in. SSC Stenographer 2026 Application Fee

The application Fee for SSC Stenographer 2026 is Rs. 100/- (for General and OBC). Candidates belonging to SC/ST/PWD/Ex-servicemen category as well as female candidates will be exempted from paying the application fee for SSC Stenographer 2026.

How to Apply Online for SSC Stenographer 2026?

  2. The registration link for SSC Stenographer 2026 opens up in a new window.
  3. Click on the New User/Register Now link.
  4. To begin with the SSC Stenographer Apply Online 2026, a candidate needs to provide basic details of themselves like name, parents’ name, date of birth, email ID, mobile number etc.
  5. Click on the submit button to submit your online registration form for SSC Stenographer 2026. It is advised that candidates verify their details before submitting the form. All the candidates will be issued a Registration ID for SSC Stenographer Recruitment 2026 exam.
  6. Candidates are required to log in with the provided Registration ID, date of birth and password to complete registration for SSC Stenographer 2026.
  7. In the next step, candidates are required to upload photographs and signatures by following the requisites mentioned by the Staff Selection Commission of India.
  8. Log in with a registered ID and password to complete Part II of the application form for SSC Stenographer 2026.

Photograph – The photograph of a candidate must be clicked in front of a white color or light-colored background. The size of the photograph must be more than 4 kb and less than 12 kb in size. The resolution of the photograph must be 100*120 pixels in width and height.

Signature – The signature provided by the candidate must be in black or blue ink on the white sheet. The scanned copy of the signature that needs to be submitted must be in jpg format and it should be more than 1 kb and less than 12 kb in size. The resolution of the image should be 40*60 pixels in width and height.

SSC Stenographer 2026 Selection Process

The SSC Stenographer 2026 examination will be conducted at 2 different levels. The first level is the Grade C and D exam which comprises MCQs and is conducted online. After this exam has been conducted, an exam to test your skill sets in various domains is conducted by SSC.

Important Points:

a) Question paper will be of Objective Type Multiple Choice. Questions will be set in Hindi and English except for Part III.

There will be a negative marking of 0.25 marks for each wrong answer. Candidates are, therefore, advised to keep this in mind while answering the question.

SSC Stenographer Minimum Qualifying Marks

The minimum percentage of marks for qualifying in the SSC Stenographer Computer-Based Examination will be as under:

  • Unreserved Category: 30%
  • OBC/EWS: 25%
  • All Other Categories: 20%

Skill Test in Stenography

Candidates who obtain the qualifying marks in the Examination as may be prescribed by the Commission will be called for the Skill Test. The commission may also prescribe qualifying marks in each part of the Examination. The Skill Test will be of a qualifying nature, and the Commission will fix the qualifying standards in the Skill Test for different categories of candidates.

The candidates will have to appear for the Skill Test in Stenography. The candidates will be given one dictation for 10 minutes in English/ Hindi at the speed of 100 words per minute (w.p.m) for the post of Stenographer Grade ‘C’ and 80 w.p.m. for the post of Stenographer Grade ‘D’. The matter will have to be transcribed on a computer. The transcription time is as follows:
